An evolutionary biologist, a writer, a traveller, a photographer. Not yet but hopefully once. The Journey Journal is about the latter two, photographs from my travels. I am not a pro photographer (but rather a beginner) and I am not an English native speaker, but I love going to new places, I love capturing their atmosphere with my Nikon camera and I love writing.
But back to the beginning. I’m Patrícia and I’m originaly from Slovakia, I did my Bachelor and Master studies in Biology in the Czech Republic and I also spent five months in Madrid as an Erasmus student. I think that it will be one of my homes forever. After finishing my Master’s I moved to Stockholm to do a PhD in Evolutionary Biology. And here I am. I’m studying ancient DNA from fossils of the woolly mammoth. I love my work and I’m happy that it allows me to travel to different parts of the world for conferences, courses and field work. I try to use every chance to visit a new place and I always bring my camera.
The Journey Journal is a travel blog tracking my journey to explore the world. I have visited many of the traditional touristic destinations like Paris, London, Rome and Prague. I have also been to more authentic places like Extramadura in Spain, Macedonia in Greece and Puglia in Italy. I made a road trip around Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia and a 3-week road trip around New Zealand.
During my studies in Stockholm I explore Scandinavia and except for visiting Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki, I also visited a small island Tjärno on the Swedish west coast, Sonfjället National Park in Central Sweden and I spent three weeks in the far north doing field work for the Arctic fox project.
I write about all the amazing, surprising, disappointing and memorable moments from my travels. I share places worth visiting, food and drinks worth tasting and activities worth trying. Photographs are essential for The Journey Journal. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Although my boyfriend Martin always complains when I start planning a new journey, and he hates travelling by plane, he is usually my travel companion and deserves a special acknowledgement.
I hope you will enjoy exploring the world through my photo lens! :)
