One of the best things about Christmas is that it’s perfectly okay to make a cosy evening with candles, comfy pyjamas and a book as often as you wish. Something that I find inseparably connected to such an evening is a mug of mulled wine. There are various versions of this popular drink, but I bring you a recipe for the one that we like in Slovakia.
0.5 L red wine
100 mL water
4 cinnamon sticks
10 pcs cloves
3 pcs star anise
5 tbsp cane sugar
1. Boil the water and add cinnamon, cloves, star anise and sugar to extract the spice essence.
Let infuse for about 5 minutes.
2. Pour in the wine and add a few slices of an orange.
3. Slowly cook until the wine is almost boiling, but remove from stove before it actually starts boiling.
4. Enjoy the beautiful aroma and great taste. Yes, it’s that simple!
